Is it still worth using the Samsung Galaxy SIII in 2015? The short answer is yes, the galaxy S3 is a powerfull phone, yes it is outdated compare to newer phones, but with the right applications and root access you can configure it to function flawlessly and still give you a great mobile experience.

Last month a friend of mine gave me a Galaxy S3 SGH T999 that runs on T-Mobile’s 4G network. Since I already have a LG Optimus F6 at that time, I really didn’t bother to check it. One day I saw the box on my drawer, and open it, it still looks new, no scratches, it has a screen protector on it, it was also reset to factory settings. The first thing I notice is it’s fast, snappy and performs faster than the Optimus F6. And that’s when it all started, I decided to give it a try.
Here’s what I did to make it perform faster and better and get the most of the Galaxy S3. First I rooted the phone using this guide ( the firmware version of mine was Android v4.3 Jelly Bean) so make you follow the one for your firmware. After gaining root access I installed Root Checker to verify that I have proper root access.
Now that I have root access. I can now clean-up the clatter. with an app that can uninstall or disable built-in apps from Samsung and t-Mobile. Most of this apps cannot be remove or uninstalled the normal way. I found three apps that can do this. I’ve used each of these apps before on my previous android devices and all of them worked great, it’s just a matter of preference on the part of the user. Here they are:
- Root App Delete – easily manage system apps, you can either disable / freeze it or totally remove the app, the best tool for managing apps on your android system.
- System app remove – this apps can easily uninstall system apps
- Disable Service – disable services running in the background.
I installed each of them, they all worked fine, but I settled with my all time favorite, Root App Delete.
After removing the apps that I don’t need, I then installed No Frills CPU Control to set the CPU frequencies and governor to use. (Please note: this will deplete your battery faster.). Now the phone runs faster and no lag at all. The last optimization app that I installed is the App Cache Cleaner which can be set to automatically clean application cached file.
With the help if these apps, I’m now very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S3, it performs faster, no lag when opening apps.
Lastly I bought the PureGear PX 360 case from Amazon, I really like this case, it’s rugged design looks good, and it also comes with a screen protector.
